The slat curtain system is comprised of steel hollow section slat with ceramic wool infill on one side while heat-resisting ceramic blanket on another side., leading to asymmetric slat curtain system. The tested slat system was designed to have half of side with steel slat curtain facing to fire while another half of side with ceramic blanket facing to fire side and a bi parting junction in between. Exclusive connectors (Patent application no. PCT/CN2014/070276) are used to detach the heat resisting ceramic blanket , and vice versa. Additional fabric glass can be added to the outer layer of slat curtain for decoration. 

There are two operating mechanisms for this type of shutter, they are spring coil type and helix top plate type respectively. Spring coil type (Model no.: SIL-44S) lateral shutter requires chipping recess on floor to sit the enclosure box but relatively smaller enclosure box size is needed. Helix top plate type (Model no.: SIL-44) lateral shutter does not require chipping recess on floor but relatively larger enclosure box size is needed.

The specimen was regarded as failure in integrity in 129 mins due to sustained flaming was observed at bottom right corner of the left curtain. The sustained flaming was caused by plastic ring found inside the roller chain, so integrity of 240 mins can be assessed by the laboratory when the roller chain with plastic ring is replaced by roller chain without plastic ring.
